Can stone veneer go on my wall in Deerfield Beach?

Stone veneer installation in Deerfield Beach puts a facing of natural thin stone or manufactured stone on an existing wall, held on by a mortar bond, so the stone becomes the wall's new outer face over plain or tired block, concrete or framed walls.

Most people who call about stone veneer have a block wall, a column or a front facade they want to dress up, and the first real question is whether that wall can carry stone. The price moves with the size of the wall, the stone you pick and how much prep the wall needs before stone can bond to it. The schedule turns on that same prep, the curing time and any permit the job needs, and when it needs one, we pull it. If you want a full-thickness stone wall and not a facing, that's our stone masonry work. Either way, my written estimate lays out what we'll do to your wall and why.

Why homeowners pick us for stone veneer

You'll get a straight answer about whether your wall can carry stone, and the reason behind it, before anything goes up. Satisfaction guaranteed.

  • I look at your wall

I come to every job and write the estimate myself, then an experienced mason leads our crew while I check in.

  • Causes found, not covered

If your wall is cracked or failing, I'd rather find out why now than hide it behind new stone.

  • Licensed and fully insured

We carry both on every stone veneer job, so you aren't taking on the risk of an unlicensed crew.

  • Trained on commercial jobs

I laid block, brick and stone for a large commercial outfit before starting this business in 2021.

  • Start with a call or photos

Call (754) 253-5630 or send photos through the estimate form, saying whether your wall is block, concrete or framed.

How we install stone veneer

Before any stone goes up, I check the wall behind it, because a weak or coated wall changes the prep or rules veneer out. Then the wall type picks the method.

  • Bare block or poured concrete

Manufactured stone can go straight onto block or concrete that's clean and rough enough to hold a mortar bond, and walls like that are typically cleaned by power washing or shot or bead blasting first. If you're building a new concrete block wall or a foundation block wall, leaving it bare for stone means fewer steps later.

  • Painted or sealed walls

A painted or waterproofed wall that won't bond first gets lath, a metal mesh fastened to the wall, and a scratch coat, a layer of mortar scored so the stone has something to grip. It's more work than bare block, but it gives the stone a base it can hold onto.

  • Wood-framed walls

Wood and gypsum sheathing can't fully hold the lath and stone, and fasteners set in sheathing alone can work loose, so the fastening can't rely on it. Proper fastening helps keep the stone on in high winds, and I'll show you how yours gets fastened before we start.

  • Natural thin stone

If you want real quarried stone, natural thin stone is cut to a thin face for walls like these. One stone trade group's guide says thin stone weighing 15 pounds per square foot or less needs no support ledge underneath it.

Stone veneer questions we hear

How much does stone veneer installation cost in Deerfield Beach?

Stone veneer installation in the Miami-Fort Lauderdale area usually costs about $2,500 to $9,000 per project. That's the regional going rate for a whole job, not our price, and where yours lands depends on the wall size, the stone and the prep. Your written estimate gives you the figure for your wall.

How long does stone veneer installation take?

Plan on at least two days, even for a small wall, because the usual guidance is that the scratch coat needs 24 to 48 hours to cure before the stone goes on. Bigger walls and extra prep add days, and I'll tell you what to expect for yours at the estimate.

Can stone veneer go over EIFS or a cracked wall?

Usually not. An industry installation guide says adhered manufactured stone shouldn't go over a deteriorating or unsound wall, or over EIFS, the foam-backed insulated finish that looks like stucco. If your wall is cracking, I'll take a closer look at why before we talk about stone.

Can I do stone veneer work on my condo in Deerfield Beach myself?

Not under the city's rules. For condo units, the city says you need to hire a Florida licensed contractor and get a permit before work starts, and it adds that failing to hire a licensed contractor is a felony in Florida.

Does a Florida contractor license cover work in Deerfield Beach?

A certified Florida license does, because it allows work anywhere in the state. A registered license only covers the cities or counties where the contractor holds a certificate of competency, so ask which kind a contractor has before you hire.

What is the best way to keep water out from behind stone veneer?

On framed walls that need a water-resistant barrier, industry guidance calls for separate layers lapped like shingles, starting at the bottom of the wall, so water running down stays on the outside of each layer. A rainscreen, a drainage space behind the stone, is an optional step that helps stray water drain and the wall dry faster, and we can talk through whether it suits your wall.

Stone veneer permits and paperwork in Deerfield Beach

In Deerfield Beach, CAP Government handles the city's permits, plan approvals, inspections and permit close-out. Almost any condo unit work needs a permit, and the city's exception list names things like interior painting and floor covering, not stone veneer, so ask CAP Government about your job before assuming it's exempt. When it needs a permit, we pull it, handle the paperwork and line up the inspections. Two pieces are yours, since the city needs the owner's signature on every permit application and the DFB HOA Affidavit with every residential permit, and I'll tell you early on what to sign and have ready.

Most homes we work on here are concrete block, and many have been painted over the years, so the lath and scratch coat prep above comes up often. We see the same block houses on jobs in Boca Raton and Pompano Beach, and we work across the cities around Deerfield Beach, from Boynton Beach down to Fort Lauderdale and Tamarac. If yours isn't named, just ask.
