Retaining wall construction in Deerfield Beach FL - a wall that holds your slope

Soil washing off a slope or an old timber wall leaning out? We build block walls that hold the ground and give you level yard.

Do I need a retaining wall, and what goes into building one?

Retaining wall construction in Deerfield Beach means building a wall that holds back the soil on a slope, along with whatever rests on it, so your yard stays put and you get level ground you can use. We usually build segmental walls, which are concrete units stacked dry without mortar that hold the backfill, the soil behind the wall, mostly by their own weight.

Most calls start with a slope that washes out after heavy rain, a timber wall that's starting to lean, or a yard you'd like to level for a patio. The price moves with the wall's height and length, how much digging and base work the ground needs, whether it needs reinforcement behind it and how easy it is to get block to the spot. The schedule turns on the material, the weather and what we find once we dig, and my written estimate spells out what we'll do and why.

Why homeowners pick us for retaining walls

I'd rather spend extra time reading the ground than build a wall over a problem, and I'll explain each step so you know what's holding your yard up.

  • I look at it myself

I come out and write every estimate myself, so the one pricing your wall is the one who walked your slope.

  • A mason leads the crew

Our crew is led by an experienced mason, and I check in on your wall as the work goes.

  • Trained on commercial block

I laid block, brick and stone on big commercial jobs for years before I started this business in 2021.

  • Licensed and fully insured

We're licensed and fully insured, which is the first thing I'd check before letting anyone dig in my yard.

  • Satisfaction guaranteed

Satisfaction guaranteed, so if something about your wall doesn't sit right with you, call (754) 253-5630 and tell me.

The retaining walls we build and why

I choose the wall from how tall the slope is, what sits above it and how much room is behind it, because a wall takes more yard than the face you see.

  • Segmental block walls

This is the wall we build most often, for a slope beside a patio, pool deck or driveway, and it goes up course by course on a packed base. If we hit water while digging, we stop and sort out drainage before the wall goes any higher, and one block maker's specification says that drainage goes in the way the wall's design engineer directs.

  • Walls along a property line

When your wall holds up ground along a neighbor's property, room has to be set aside for the wall, the reinforced soil behind it and any slopes dug to build it. So we mark out the full footprint early, before anyone is surprised by where the digging goes.

  • Saving an older masonry wall

If you already have a brick or stone wall that's cracking or bulging, tearing it out isn't always the answer. I'll work out why it's failing first, and sometimes masonry restoration is the better fix.

  • Level terraces for outdoor living

A wall that levels a slope gives you flat ground for a patio or a seating area. If you'd like a fire feature out there, we also do fireplace installation, and it's easier to plan both together.

What happens when you call about a retaining wall?

I plan each wall around your yard and how you use it, and I explain what I find before anyone picks up a shovel.

  1. Call or send photos

Call (754) 253-5630 or send photos of the slope, and I set up a time to come look at it myself.

  2. I look at the site

I walk the slope and work out why the ground is moving, since the cause decides what kind of wall it needs.

  3. Your written estimate

You get a written estimate that explains what we'll build and why, so you can compare it with anyone else's.

  4. We build and walk it

Once you say go, we take care of any permit, our crew builds the wall, and I walk the finished job with you.

Retaining wall questions we hear

How much does a retaining wall cost in Broward County?

A retaining wall in Broward County usually costs about $42 to $45 per square foot. That's the usual price across the county, not our quote, and your number moves with the wall's height, the digging and base work and any drainage it needs. I'll put your figure in a written estimate after I see the slope.

How long does it take to build a retaining wall?

A national cost guide says a standard home wall, 50 to 100 feet long and 3 to 4 feet tall, typically takes a crew 2 to 5 days in concrete block or timber. Natural stone or poured concrete runs 1 to 2 weeks because of cure time. What we find when we dig can change that, and I'll tell you what to plan for once I've seen the site.

Why pick concrete block over timber for a retaining wall?

Block doesn't splinter or rot, and that's usually what ends a treated timber or railroad tie wall. The concrete block trade group says segmental units also resist cracking, which is why segmental block is what we build with.

What is the best way to prepare the ground for a retaining wall base?

Start with firm, solid soil at the bottom of the base trench. One block maker's guide says heavy clay, wet soil or ground that's been dug before should come out and be replaced with granular material, packed down in thin layers. I check what's under the trench before we set the first block, because a wall is only as steady as what it sits on.

How do I check a retaining wall contractor's license in Florida?

Ask whether their Florida license is certified or registered, and where it applies. A certified license works anywhere in the state, while a registered one covers only the cities or counties where the contractor holds a certificate of competency. Ask us the same thing at the estimate.

What is a reinforced retaining wall?

It's a segmental wall with flat layers of soil reinforcement that reach back into the backfill behind it. Those layers make the whole wall act wider and heavier than the block alone, which is why a reinforced wall needs more room behind it.

Retaining wall permits and work in Deerfield Beach

Whether your wall needs a permit is a question for the city, and I'd rather ask than guess, so if you want to check yourself, the Deerfield Beach Building Department answers permit questions at 954-250-4060. Here, CAP Government handles the building code work for the city, from permit applications and plan approvals through inspections and close-out. When a job needs a permit, we pull it, handle the paperwork and line up the inspections. Two things fall to you. The city wants the property owner's signature on every permit application, and every residential permit needs the city's HOA affidavit, so I'll tell you early when to sign and what to get from your HOA.

Around here we mostly see walls going in where a yard steps down to a patio or pool deck, or along a tight side yard next to the neighbor's fence. We do the same work in the cities around us, from Boca Raton and Boynton Beach down to Fort Lauderdale and Tamarac, and if your city isn't named here, just ask.
